Chocolate in Perugia

Today we visited the Nestle-Perugina Chocolate Factory in San Sisto (a suburb) of Perugia. I had been on the Scharffenberger tour in Berkeley, so kind of expected something similar, but this was waaaaaaaaaaay cooler than that and the Italians just give you candy and chocolate to sample. At the S factory, they go more into detail about the process of how chocolate is made from the cacao bean, etc, whereas at the N-P factory, it is more about the history of the factory and then you go inside the factory and see how chocolate is made. Well, you really cannot go inside because of hygenic reasons, but they have walled off areas for tours so you can see in - and you feel like you are watching episodes of 'I Love Lucy' - when she and Ethel are at the candy assembly line.

There were just assembly lines of their world famous Baci, 'kisses.' My sister wondered what happened to the defects? Do employees get to eat them all?
Wow!?!

Anyway, we would highly recommend the tour... If you are staying in Perugia, take the 7A and we found out that the 6 bus also goes there too... to San Sisto.

Ciao for now...

Tomorrow we check out of Hotel Fortuna and leave for Siena, home of the Palio, but we will not be there during that event.
