Week 1: Trip Highlights and Photos

After a long flight and layover, we finally arrived in Rome, where we took a train to Napoli. From there our kind apartment owner, Fulvio picked us up that stormy night and drove us to our rental, where my sister and I stayed for 7 days. The first three days of our stay in Italy were wet, that's what I recall. It rained on and off, and so we had to alter our sightseeing arrangements. Instead of seeing Capri and the Amalfi Coast the first couple of days, we headed for Pompeii and Naples. Fortunately, after the third day the sun decided to come out permanently during our short 18-day residence in Italy. That's when we headed for the Amalfi Coast, Capri and other coastal destinations. Fortunately for us, Sorrento and Naples were both very close and provided similar beautiful backdrops...

We did go out to eat several times, and Naples being the home of pizza, we had to find "Da Michele." That was a journey itself; asking Neapolitans (who for the life of me I couldn't really understand), and so many just seem to want to give you directions just for the sake of wanting to give directions, where it was... anway, we finally found this famous pizzeria and it was truly great --- I'm still thinking of the dough.

Another place, where the pizza was good (pasta was too salty), was Giardanello in Sorrento. We also ate at Da Gigino, but I wasn't that impressed with it; the furniture is nicer and the prices are higer than Giardanello, but the food is better at Giardenello. I think Trader Joe's pizza tastes better. Anyway...

That's it for now... I'll write more about the trip to Capri, Amalfi Coast, and Pompeii later... Ciao Ciao!
