Even though we've been back for a couple of weeks now, I'm still thinking of what we could have packed. My sister and I packed pretty light, both carry-on luggage on the way over (and we checked them on the way back because we weren't in a rush and just lazy to carry). Because we were in the Italy during the dead of winter, we had to pack certain extras (scarves, coats, gloves) that we normally would forgo during the heat of the summer. Believe it or not, we survived on two pairs of pants, 1 pair of shoes, and a few tops -- and voila' that was our moda Italiana!
Here are some items I'm definitely glad I'm brought along. I would say these were ESSENTIALS and MUST HAVES to have packed during our travel. That said, here's my list:
flip-flops (walking around hotel room cold Italian tile floors, or when taking a shower)
AA batteries (digital camera; I really didn't need to bring my rechargable batteries and recharger) - generic set from Costco
guide book
Capri map (requested years ago from Italian Tourism Board)
Venice map (not as helpful as Capri map, but still decent, I had it from the last time we were in Venice)
converter/adapter
Items I brought along but didn't find any use for:
battery recharger (If I had not purchased the set of AA batteries from Costco I would have used it daily.)
phrase book (I have an Italian phrase book; fortunately for me it's slim, but I still did not use it enough to warrant bringing it.)
Items I wish I had brought:
Vaseline (I'm sure I could have procured this in Italy... my feet got really dry during the end of my stay!)
pumice stone (Once again, it's all about the feet.)
a larger suitcase (for the great olive oil we bought... too bad we didn't buy more bottles!)
Damn!
