If you push one of these emergency boxes, help is supposed to come to you. I'm not sure how or when, but it's supposed to happen. Fortunately, the only thing that happened due to our hike was sore muscles. :-)

Hiking 5 Terre
The beginning of the hike: it spans 5 towns and roughly 5 hours. You should probably get a map -- and need to pay for the path usage. There are park service personnel who work and will stamp and validate your path/park usage -- it is kind of neat. (You wonder, how did they get there, in the middle of nowhere? There must be some kind of shortcut? No? Did they get helicoptered in? Hmmmnh... questions, questions...)

If you push one of these emergency boxes, help is supposed to come to you. I'm not sure how or when, but it's supposed to happen. Fortunately, the only thing that happened due to our hike was sore muscles. :-)
