Home away from Home in Italy

During our 3 week stay in Italy we stayed in several different hotels and one apartment rental. I've listed the places below, plus a brief review.

Sant'Agnello: We stayed in an
apartment in Sant'Agnello, which is about a 15-minute walk from Sorrento. We found the place on Homelidays, a French run site. Private home owners list, and you can contact them. Homelidays, is sort of like VRBO. There are plenty of companies out there, you can check out Slowtrav for further recommendations. Anyway, the first few days of our stay it rained, so we really didn't feel like walking to Sorrento, even though it's so close (the weather can put a damper on it all). Fortunately, the Circumvesuvania train is nearby (5 minute walk). I think our rental was quite inexpensive, it afforded us to visit Campania during the entire week.

Perugia:
Hotel Fortuna - via L. Bonazzi, 19 - 06121 Perugia (Perugia)

Siena: Albergo Cannon d'Oro -
cannondoro.com
Via Montanini 28, Siena - Tel +39 0577 44321 - Fax +39 0577 280868

Venezia:
Hotel Orion - orion.hotelinvenice.com
Hotel Orion is really close to St. Mark's, but you don't hear the church bells! The staff is really friendly and went out of their way to make us feel at home. The only people who were annoying were our next door neighbors (Americans)...

Milan: Hotel Aspromonte - P.zza Aspromonte, 12/14 20131, Milano.
We stayed here only a couple of nights. The staff was nice, young, and friendly - but I could not get over how incredibly smoky it was -- I thought I was stuck in some nightclub, especially late at night when I was trying to go to sleep... it was incredibly hard, we had to open in the window, in the dead of winter, to have fresh air. Plus, the transit isn't as convenient as you would think, for Milano. I think for short stays, you're better off in a cramped hotel in the middle of town, or somewhere in the center of Corso B. Aires. The rooms are large for Milan, but other than that, I don't know if I'd go back--the smoke killed whatever atmosphere and nicety it had.
